Hanel Lean-Lift: Storage for Matsuura Machinery

Relevance:

Matsuura Machinery USA Inc. Minnesota, USA Matsuura Machinery Corporation was founded in Japan in 1935. Today the family business is managed by the third generation. The Matsuura name stands for fast and precise machining of various kinds of work pieces. The parts and service center for North America is located in Minnesota. This facility ships the parts needed for the maintenance and repair of Matsuura machines in operation throughout the USA. Matsuura Machinery relies on Hänel Lean-Lift® systems for the compact storage of small parts. Some 1,398 various parts are stored in just one Hänel lift system – that’s almost 25 percent of the company’s parts inventory! Hänel multifunction containers for perfect organization The parts are compactly stored on the well-organized Hänel multifunction containers. Thanks to the “goods to man” principle, there is no need for employees to stoop and lift heavy items, nor is there any ladder climbing when retrieving parts. The items requested are picked from the storage system and placed on carts where they are packed for shipping. Right now Matsuura employees are only using the basic functions of the Hänel MP 12 N multifunction controller. However, Matsuura Machinery plans to connect the lift system with its IT system software in the near future in order to boost picking time. Company: Matsuura Machinery Location: 325 Randolph Avenue St. Paul, MN 55102 Employees: 27 Storage systems: 1 Hänel Lean-Lift® Items stored: Spare parts for CNC machines Order picking using a cart to support fast shipping Requesting the container using the Hänel controller MP 12 N with touch screen Compact and well-organized storage of diverse small parts 25 percent of all parts stored in the Hänel Lean-Lift® within a minimum of floor space

Hanel Lean-Lift : Flexibility for Wholesale Operatons

Relevance:

Warehouse storage of various items in small batches Maximum flexibility for wholesale operations with the Hänel Lean-Lift® L. H. Dottie is a family-owned wholesale business that provides quality products to facility maintenance and construction professionals in multiple regions across North America. The sales center in Los Angeles, California, employs 70 people who process orders for electrical installation and plumbing products as well as hardware and work safety items. Flexible quantities available at wholesale prices The company relies on a Hänel Lean-Lift® as the key system for distributed storage in its wholesale warehouse. The vertical system is used to store various items in small batches. The Hänel Lean-Lift® has a height of 19.69 ft / 6 m and is used for order quantities that are smaller than a wholesale bulk package. The compact MP 12 N controller communicates directly with the ERP system A central conveyor system transports cartons – with order labels attached – to the retrieval access point of the Hänel lift. An employee uses a manual scanner to read each label. The compact MP12 N controller on the Hänel Lean-Lift® sends this information to the Oracle ERP system and the customer order is started. When this is confirmed on the controller, the lift sequentially brings the items shown on the pick list to the access point. When the picking order has been completed, the ERP books all of the transactions and the inventory status is updated automatically. Precise data about quantities and items in stock is available at all times. Items are neatly stored on Hänel multifunction containers, which can be configured in many different ways for ergonomic picking. The Hänel compartment and sub-level indicators show precisely where items are located on the containers. The Hänel Lean-Lift® complies with the most stringent security guidelines Hänel fulfills all of the strict safety standards specified in the Los Angeles area. The frame of the Hänel Lean-Lift® and its profile wall is a truss structure having a load-bearing capacity of up to 132,277 lbs / 60,000 kg. Additional reinforcements make the Hänel system even more stable and earthquake-proof. The company is very satisfied with the Hänel storage solution and plans to order an additional Lean-Lift® soon. Vertical storage of supplies for tradesmen, plumbers and electricians in the Hänel Lean-Lift® The lift quickly brings the requested items to the retrieval point for picking and shipping Employees can process pick lists at any time thanks to easy and intuitive system operation Additional struts in the Hänel Lean-Lift® reinforce the system and make it earthquake-proof

Hanel Office and Industrial Storage Systems: The pharmacy as a distribution center for medicines and health-care products The opening of the pharmacy at the Elisenpalais in Aschaffenburg, along with its affiliated drugstores at the beginning of 2006, marked the start of one of the most modern pharmacy concepts in Germany Its five servers for enterprise resource planning, over 40 PC workstations, and sophisticated storage technology in which 4 Hänel storage systems play a decisive role, demanded skilled teamwork from all those involved right from the planning stage. 44,000 medical and pharmaceutical products are available at all times. The entire building complex with about 61,000 SQ. YD. of floor space covers numerous health-care services. Doctors from a variety of specialist fields, in-house surgical rooms and a welfare center are all housed under one roof. The pharmacy’s customers include not only patients who are supplied with medicines directly in the salesroom. As well as catering to numerous customers on-site, the pharmacy also offers home deliveries to patients needing continuous medical supplies. It also delivers to care homes for the elderly, residential nursing homes, hospital outpatient and casualty wards and teaching hospitals. To ensure that the 44,000 drugs and pharmaceutical products are constantly and immediately avail - able, three Hänel Lean-Lift®s and one Hanel Rotomat® with heights up to 33 FT. were integrated in the building complex. This increased the available storage area by 4300 SQ. FT. In view of the pharmacy’s inner-city location, this space-saving solution was just what was needed. It was possible to reduce the storage footprint by 50%. The pluses 50% space reduction compared with conventional storage systems Optimal integration in the future oriented IT system Protection from dust thanks to the closed design Simple and quick operation of the Hänel storage systems Parallel operation of the units enables multiple operators to pick and put at the same time

Warehouse carousel storage systems optimize logistics

Relevance:

TQ-Systems GmbH Carousel storage optimizes production logistics TQ-Systems, a German electronics provider in Seefeld near Munich, relies on 45 Hänel Rotomat® storage systems to optimize production logistics. LACOM/TS communications software and the LACOM/IDOC server are used for intelligent and flexible coordination of the put and pick operations for SMD and THT components in the storage carousels. The Hänel systems replaced decentralized storage areas where employees manually retrieved items for various assembly lines. This process is now centralized, automated and extremely efficient. At TQ-Systems' Seefeld headquarters in the Bavarian region of Germany, some 70,000 storage positions in the Hänel Rotomat® solution are included in the customer's SAP WM module. Most positions are allocated for electronic SMD and THT components. The Rotomat® storage carousels have effectively optimized warehouse logistics so that more productivity can be achieved without the need for additional employees. Various types of supply systems provide the items needed for production – trolleys transport the components from the central warehouse in the basement to the assembly area on the ground floor. Careful planning and constant expansion of the new Hänel Rotomat® storage solution optimized the storage density in the carousels – from the floor to the ceiling. Based on precise requirement planning by TQ-Systems, Hänel fitted the storage carousels with special profiles to accommodate intermediate, split-level shelves. The addition of variable dividers ensures an optimal storage density of nearly 100 percent. Hänel LACOM/TS communications software and the LACOM/IDOC server provide the fast and direct channel that connects the storage carousels with the SAP warehouse management system. All storage data is managed centrally in SAP, including storage and retrieval operations that are communicated as transport orders to the LACOM/TS application via the IDOC interface. Thus multiple job orders can be filled simultaneously on several storage carousel systems. During put and pick operations, item packaging is scanned for data that activates inventory control in SAP – inventory levels are automatically compared and adjusted in real time without interrupting the IT chain. The intelligent Hänel communications software LACOM/TS also regulates user management and access rights. This means, for example, that two lockable Rotomat® systems in the cluster can be operated manually and separately as consignment storage systems. To prevent potential damage from ESD, the internal components of each storage carousel are coated with an antistatic finish. What's more, the buildup of static electricity on the carriers is prevented by brass bushings mounted in the carrying levers. Each system is also equipped with an electromechanical safety switch and a photoelectric safety light curtain at the access point.

The TECHNO-PARTS order picking warehouse is comprised of 18 Hänel Lean-Lifts® that systematically store more than 20,000 items. The lifts ensure that items are retrieved quickly and thus speed up shipping processes. The Hänel Lean-Lifts® are connected to the host ERP system via the flexible and high-performance HänelSoft® warehouse management solution. All processes, from offer generation and planning to final invoicing, are managed through the central enterprise resource planning system. Communication with HänelSoft® is based on CSV files. Employees use the Hänel MP12 N HostWeb controller to access the modern and intuitive HänelSoft® user interface. The ERP system communicates with HänelSoft® via the integrated host interface so that retrieval orders can be generated. All orders, including retrieval numbers, order numbers and other specific data, are then listed by HänelSoft® and displayed on the lift control unit. Optimized ergonomics and more speed thanks to prepositioning The 16 Hänel Lean-Lifts® are clustered in two groups each having eight storage systems. One employee is responsible for one cluster. Retrieval routing is optimized to improve picking speed. When an employee initiates a retrieval order at one of the lift systems, the software automatically ensures that the container in the nearest lift system reaches the access point for retrieval. If items intended for one order are distributed across several lift systems, the Hänel container prepositioning feature speeds up the picking process considerably. The Hänel systems at TECHNO-PARTS are also equipped with compartment and sub-level indicators to minimize retrieval errors. Each retrieval transaction is confirmed directly on the lift controller. The ERP system is notified when all of the items on the pick list have been retrieved. All transactions are constantly monitored so that the inventory status data can be updated immediately. A conveyor system positioned between both lift clusters transports boxes that employees fill with picked items – the process is very ergonomic. Once the completed order has been inspected, the delivery slip and invoice are printed and the inventory status is updated. Maximum storage capacity within a minimum footprint, along with better order picking performance The Hänel Lean-Lift® systems provide space-saving and height-optimized storage with maximum capacity within a minimum footprint. OTH Weiden

Relevance:

Smart learning with smart storage: The Hänel Lean-Lift® at OTH Amberg-Weiden The Hänel Lean-Lift® provides university students with practical insights into cutting-edge storage and intralogistics systems. At its Weiden campus, the East Bavarian Technical University (OTH) Amberg-Weiden has taken a step toward practical teaching and modern intralogistics. By investing in a Hänel Lean-Lift®, the university offers students a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with automated storage processes. This forward-looking project was made possible thanks to the support of the Member of the Bavarian State Parliament, Dr. Stephan Oetzinger. The new Hänel Lean-Lift® is a heavy weight in every sense of the word. Weighing around seven tons, the automated vertical lift is precisely tailored to the needs of OTH Amberg-Weiden. The Lean-Lift® was placed in the newly developed intralogistics laboratory and is an important element of the “SAP-based SmartFactory”, a digital model factory that provides practical training for students. For Professor Günter Kummetsteiner, an expert in integrated logistics systems, this purchase has fulfilled a long-held desire. The innovative teaching approach was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Bavarian State Parliament. Practical training with cutting-edge technology The Hänel Lean-Lift® was installed and put into operation at OTH Amberg-Weiden following a joint design and planning phase with the experts from Hänel. The state-of-the-art Hänel storage system has since added a great deal of value for student education. The automated vertical storage system offers Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Healthcare students valuable insight into operational logistics and modern storage management, allowing them to gain practical experience with SAP-based processes, preparing them to meet the demands of industry. The university uses Lean-Lift® model 2460-635 as a central material and small parts storage system, enabling transparent inventory control. At the access point, the Hänel Pick-o-Light®-Vario unmistakably identifies the precise location where the item can be found using a LED indicator. The use of Plexiglas in the lift shaft cladding reveals the innovative technology of the Hänel Lean-Lift® and accentuates its contemporary appearance. OTH Amberg-Weiden as a pioneerin the higher education landscape OTH Amberg-Weiden is breaking new ground with the installation of the Hänel Lean-Lift®. It is one of the few universities to have integrated such a system into their academic teaching, making it particularly attractive for industrial partners. A number of companies have already expressed their interest in collaboration and are providing additional equipment. But the potential of the Hänel Lean-Lift® is far from exhausted. The OTH team is currently working on integrating the Lean-Lift® into the university’s existing SAP S/4HANA system and is using the REST interface recently provided by Hänel to do this. This interface enables seamless inventory management and automatic control of storage and retrieval. Additional investments from the state funds provided are already being planned. This pioneering project has allowed OTH Amberg-Weiden to set new standards in practical university training and strengthens its position as an innovative educational institution in the field of intralogistics and digital factory processes. The installation of the Hänel Lean-Lift® at OTH Amberg-Weiden impressively highlights the added value of innovative storage and logistics solutions in academic education. The Hänel Lean-Lift® not only enables space-saving, efficient, and automatic storage, but also offers students practical insights into modern storage management systems. Professor Ulrich Müller, Professor Wolfgang Weber, OTH President Professor Clemens Bulitta and Professor Günter Kummetsteiner (from right) thank Dr Stephan Oetzinger, Member of the State Parliament, for his support. TVS Distribution Centre/Great Britain Efficient order picking system for the small parts section with Hänel storage systems The TVS company TVS opened a 25,000 m2 distribution centre in Chorley (UK) at a cost of almost 25 million euros. The plans for the new facility envisaged the building of an efficient order picking system for the ‘Small Parts’ area of the distribution centre. To find the right solution and the right partner for this challenging project, TVS felt it was important to look at a variety of suppliers and solutions and check out their efficiency and integration capability. They chose Industore and Hänel Büro- und Lagersysteme. The challenge The challenge for both TVS and Industore was not only to design and implement a world class order picking system that would increase picking speed and accuracy across the board, but also to deliver a system that would be robust and reliable in order to cope with the increased quantities and workload anticipated by TVS. The solution The solution delivered by Hänel and Industore saw the integration of 20 Hänel Lean-Lifts®, each twelve metres high, grouped together into six separate activity zones. Each zone is serviced by a computer-controlled conveyor system. Bespoke Industore software is fully integrated with TVS’s ERP system and coordinates the functions of picking, replenishment and inventory control. When pick orders are processed, the ERP system sends commands to the conveyor and controls the transactions associated with tote movements in and out of the zones. The software organizes and coordinates the picking into totes within the zones, while the containers are placed in the Hänel Lean-Lifts® under space-optimizing criteria. Paperwork and orders are also handled by the system. Each Hänel Lean-Lift® is equipped with a label printer so that the picked parts can be tagged immediately with the relevant details such as customer, route, part description and order number. On pick completion, the software automatically notifies TVS’s ERP system, which then initiates the dispatch process including the corresponding paperwork and invoicing.

AIV in Heilbronn

Relevance:

AIV in Heilbronn Hänel and viastore systems optimize the dispatch warehouse Management and control of the Hänel Lean-Lifts® and the manual store with viad@t The AIV company works tirelessly on improving its internal processes and boosting performance. Recently the firm restructured and expanded its logistics and distribution center in Heilbronn. In the process, Hänel integrated four Lean-Lifts® into the existing warehouse structure. Measuring 8.50 m high, these lifts utilize the full height of the warehouse and offer 360 square meters of storage area on a footprint of only 24 square meters. This saves a huge amount of precious floor space and makes optimal use of the existing warehouse. For AIV this was a crucial advantage, enabling the available storage area to be increased by some 200 percent! With the flexible and height-optimized storage in Hänel Lean-Lifts® up to 3,200 different products can be stocked depending on the inventory levels. Each day about 37,000 items pass through the dispatch warehouse. To enable the processes to be controlled more efficiently, AIV uses the viad@t warehouse management system from viastore systems in conjunction with its existing Navision enterprise resource planning system. New pick orders are transmitted to viad@t and can be processed in both the automated and the manual store. The Hänel Lean-Lifts® are operated via the program interface of viad@tWMS. A database keeps details of all the products including article number, article name and other properties. When new goods are put into storage, they are first identified with a barcode scanner and the inventory amount for this article is updated. Then the closest container with free storage space is automatically brought to the access point as quickly as possible. If the same product is already stored in the lift at another location, this is taken into consideration during order picking so that the “older“ article is accessed by the system first (first in – first out). Thanks to the warehouse management software, the current inventory status can be viewed at any time. New products can be added to the system easily. viad@tWMS also controls all the processes involved in retrieval. The employees can view and edit the various pick orders at the terminals. At the press of a button the control system automatically brings the container with the requested article to the access point. This means “goods to man”, not “man to goods”. To prevent pick errors, the box from which an item should be taken is identified in the graphical container overview of viad@tWMS. The Hänel Pick-o-Light® system also helps to make picking faster and more reliable by shining a red LED onto the requested article. This has further improved process reliability! The four Hänel Lean-Lifts® are operated in parallel by two employees. By using advanced storage systems from Hänel in conjunction with high-performance warehouse management software from viastore systems, the company has been able to increase its order picking performance to up to 180 picks per person per hour, in contrast to a conventional order picking warehouse. Further convincing benefits are faster goods delivery, improved stock control, minimized pick errors and shorter order processing times. Articles are scanned by barcode reader before being placed in storage. Orders are displayed on the touchscreen terminals from viastore systems and processed directly at the Lean-Lifts® Hänel‘s Pick-o-Light®-Vario pinpoints the requested item, which helps prevent pick errors

Vertical lift module storage systems for marine hardware

Relevance:

GEM Products, Jacksonville, Florida, USA The Hänel Lean-Lift® for marine parts distribution For more than 50 years GEM Products has been one of the leading providers of marine and boating equipment made of stainless steel. The company employs 28 people in Jacksonville, Florida, who ship products to satisfied customers throughout the USA. A high-speed Hänel Lean-Lift® was installed in a new building complex to optimize shipping processes. Compact and neat storage of stainless steel components in the Hänel Lean-Lift® During the planning phase, Hänel’s channel partner, South Atlantic Systems Group, collaborated with us to provide a solution based on the Lean-Lift® for vertical storage from floor to ceiling in the new building. The design of the Hänel Lean-Lift® ensures that maximum storage capacity is available within an extremely small footprint. The compact and systematic storage of stainless steel latches, handles, barrel bolts and pipe brackets in the Hänel Lean-Lift® saves enormous amounts of floor space. Fast and error-free order picking Employees request items stored on Hänel multifunction containers at the touch of a button. The system brings the containers to the access point where employees retrieve the items. This speeds up the picking process and considerably improves ergonomics. The Hänel compartment and sub-level indicators located across the access point show item locations and thus support reliable and error-free retrieval. Direct communication between HänelSoft® and the WMS HänelSoft® was seamlessly integrated in the customer’s cloud-based Warehouse Management System, powered by Netsuite. The Hänel Lean-Lift® serves as the final pick zone in the warehouse process. If an order calls for parts stored in the Hänel vertical lift system, the WMS generates a pick list and sends it to HänelSoft®. Once the employee records the pick order with the barcode scanner for the compact MP 12 N controller, this data is sent to the lift system to start the retrieval process. The extractor in the Hänel Lean-Lift® quickly works through the pick list using the most efficient routing. Seamless system integration and intelligent intralogistics concepts from Hänel once again prove that modern automated storage systems can reduce costs effectively and boost customer satisfaction! The Hänel Lean-Lift® delivers many benefits for the new GEM Products shipping center: high storage density, fast access, plus safe and secure storage Pick lists are processed quickly and accurately with barcode scanners The Hänel compartment and sub-level indicators show exactly where items are located so that picking is fast The Hänel MP 12 N-StandAlone controller communicates directly with the customer’s WMS The Hänel multifunction containers allow for the neat organization of items in various sizes and shapes "We chose the Hänel system for the increase in productivity. Hänel gives us the ability to have a single operator pick multiple orders from one location as the system brings parts to the operator, thus reducing the overall pick time." Lavans BV

Relevance:

Lavans BV, Vossenbeemd 104 a, 5705 CL Helmond, Netherlands The Hänel Multi-Space® – the efficient all-around solution with maximum storage capacity Two high-speed Hänel 3-axis lift systems serve as the central mat warehouse in the laundry facility Lavans is a family business in the Netherlands specializing in the rental and care of work clothes and floor mops, as well as various types of door mats and runners. At its laundry facility in Helmond, Lavans operates two Hänel Multi-Space® systems for storing cleaned door mats and runners. Both lift units are 19.7 ft /6 m wide and 23.0 ft /7 m high, offering enormous on-site storage capacity in the laundry. The cleaned mats are placed on carts for transport to the access points of the 3-axis lift systems, where the mats are stored prior to delivery to customers. The central location of the storage system ensures short routing within the laundry and thus saves time in the handling process. The Hänel MP 14 N-StandAlone controller, an integrated standard feature, is used for warehouse management. Transparent article management with automatic storage position allocation directly from the MP 14 N controller All mats have item numbers imprinted on them, and this data is recorded in the system. When mats are put into storage, employees enter the item numbers on the touchscreen of the controller. The integrated warehouse management automatically allocates vacant storage positions for the mats and ensures that the appropriate container is brought to the access point. When the mats have been loaded into the lift, the put operation is booked in the system. Items are put into the Hänel Multi-Space® with maximum speed because the extractor moves horizontally and vertically at the same time. The system efficiently stores hundreds of mats within a minimum footprint and protects them from dust and dirt. Thanks to parallel picking at two access points, even huge orders can be processed quickly. The intuitive Hänel MP 14 N-StandAlone controller is known for its outstanding ease of use The vertical lift systems provide enormous storage volume – from floor to ceiling – within a minimum footprint at the laundry Two employees can put or pick in parallel at both access points All rental mats have a unique item number and can thus be allocated to the respective customer batch in the storage system A specific mat can be requested by entering the item number on the controller Simple integration of the Hänel Multi-Space® in the ERP system via FTP Hänel controllers can be integrated in nearly all ERP environments without hassles. To keep operations running smoothly in the future, Lavans plans to have the storage systems linked up to its own ERP system. This will enable pick orders to be sent directly from the ERP system to both Hänel storage systems via FTP server. This kind of integration can be achieved quickly and without replacing any hardware thanks to the flexible interface capabilities of the Hänel MP 14 N controller. Enormous time savings and high storage density, along with outstanding ergonomics and user friendliness, are among the many compelling benefits delivered by the Hänel storage solution at Lavans. Cost Efficient Warehouse Parts Storage Using Hänel Lean-Lift®

Relevance:

Warehouse Parts Storage Cost-efficient storage for Wheeled Loaders and Excavators Using the Hänel Lean-Lift® Jungbluth Baumaschinen, based in Kruft, Germany, offers not only the complete and diverse range of Volvo products, but also rehandling excavators, telescopic cranes and cable excavators for hire and purchase. The spare parts storehouse holds small and medium-sized wear and maintenance parts, such as filters and rubber seals, in a space-saving vertical Hänel Lean-Lift® where they are protected from dust and light. All storage movements and inventory data are recorded transparently in the enterprise resource planning system. The Jungbluth company in Kruft has been the sole authorized distributor for Volvo construction machinery since 1990. In addition to Volvo’s diverse product range, the medium-sized enterprise offers just about any vehicle needed in the construction industry, from 30-ton dump trucks through articulated dumpers to compact excavators. Customer Service Manager Rudolf Hofmann says: “We have five of our own special transporters and four service centers equipped with state-of-the-art workshops including IT-supported diagnostic technology and spare parts storehouses. When the need arises, urgently required spare parts are ordered online from our suppliers overnight and either brought to our workshop here in Kruft early the next morning or supplied straight to the faulty excavator or wheel loader on the construction site.” If necessary, the authorized dealer of Volvo, Sennebogen and Merlo can even supply its customers from Bad Neuenahr to Neuwied, Mayen-Koblenz, Montabaur and right up to the Hunsrück area with spare parts from allied companies and third-party manufacturers. Optimum service for construction vehicles with the cost-efficient Hänel Lean-Lift® “We do the servicing and maintenance of the construction vehicles either at our workshop in Kruft or directly on the building site with our service team”, explains Rudolf Hofmann. So all the wear and maintenance parts, which means everything needed for inspection and repair work, are stocked in the spare parts storehouse. The smaller and midsize items, such as filters and sealing rings, are kept in the Hänel Lean-Lift®. Heavy and bulky parts are kept in the high-bay pallet storehouse. All the article data and storage locations are entered in the TopLog ERP system from Logis. The microprocessor controller of the Hänel Lean-Lift® interfaces directly with the ERP system. When a new order is placed, all the job details and the relevant article data are transmitted automatically to the vertical lift system. As soon as the job number is entered on the Hänel controller, the first container is conveyed straight to the access point. The right containers are simply transported to the retrieval point at the press of a button so that the individual parts can be picked. And the automatic feedback of inventory data to the ERP system ensures that the latest pick and put operations are always mapped in the inventory control system. Impressive space savings, user-friendly picking ”Order picking in the warehouse has become so much simpler. With the ‘goods to man’ principle of the Lean-Lift®, employees no longer have to walk long distances up and down the steps of the old rack storage system”, says the Customer Service Manager. Rising 7.8 meters in height, Hänel’s vertical lift system spans three floor levels, making use of the entire space up to the ceiling. So all the products from the two-story rack system that previously took up 150 m² of floor space can now be kept in the containers of the Lean-Lift®. The height-optimized assignment of the trays ensures that the entire space is efficiently used. With a footprint of just 9 m², huge space savings have been achieved thanks to the Hänel Lean-Lift®. And all the spare parts are protected from light and dust by Hänel’s closed storage system. Measuring 7.8 m high, the Hänel Lean-Lift® spans three floor levels, making use of the entire space up to the ceiling to store the assembly components. As soon as the job number is entered on the Hänel controller, the first container is transported automatically to the access point. At the touch of a button the next container is requested and transported to the access point by the extractor. All the spare parts are protected from light and dust by Hänel’s closed storage system. Bulky components are stored on the trays in height-optimized slots.

HT CONNECT GmbH & Co. KG, Norisstraße 4, 91257 Pegnitz, Germany 24 Hänel Lean-Lifts® as central e-commerce distribution center The modern logistics solution delivers high levels of customer satisfaction with online shopping HT Connect is a family business in Pegnitz, Germany, offering a wide range of products and fittings through its online shop PVC-Welt.de. The distribution center has 24 Hänel Lean-Lift® systems in operation – they ensure a smooth and efficient flow of goods sold successfully online. Space-saving storage based on height optimization for effective picking The vertical Hänel systems provide systematic and compact storage for 95 % of all items offered by the shop. By fully utilizing the height inside the company’s building, the Hänel Lean-Lifts® store more than 10,000 items within a small footprint. The many diverse products are well-organized and kept in boxes for height-optimized storage on Hänel multifunction containers. Optimal integration of the Hänel controller in the JTL ERP system The Hänel MP 14 N HostData microprocessor controller is directly linked to the company’s JTL ERP system. This direct integration of the lift controller supports optimal logistics processes. The host ERP system manages items, inventories, orders and customers. Once an online customer order is received, a sales order is generated in the ERP system and sent to the warehouse. System-driven parallel prepositioning in each lift cluster boosts picking speed. The precise coordination of the ERP system and the intelligent lift controller is the basis for fast, flexible and efficient order processing at HT Connect. A barcode scanner directly underneath the MP 14 N controller is used to record key order information and start the picking process. The extractor in the Hänel Lean-Lift® automatically brings the requisite multifunction containers sequentially to the access point. Thus in each lift cluster, up to four Hänel Lean-Lift® systems simultaneously deliver the requested items for picking at an ergonomic height. Thanks to parallel prepositioning at all six lift units, even large numbers of orders can be processed very quickly. Error-free identification of the requisite item with Hänel Pick-o-Light®-Vario Ergonomic and fast picking close to the nearby conveyor system Prepositioning in the Lean-Lifts® enables parallel order processing at several access points simultaneously. This dramatically boosts picking efficiency All customer orders from the online shop are centrally entered in the JTL ERP system as job orders . . . . . . scanning the job order starts the picking process and all relevant multifunction containers in the lift cluster are prepositioned. Accurate item identification thanks to Hänel Pick-o-Light®-Vario Hänel Pick-o-Light®-Vario supports employees with its pick-by-light technology. The result: more accuracy and efficiency. When the container arrives at the access point, the item position on the container is clearly identified for the user with a dot of light. In addition, inventory quantities and the exact locations of items on the container are shown on the Hänel MP 14 N controller display. The items can then be removed from the system at an ergonomic height and placed on a nearby roller conveyor. Each item picked is confirmed on the controller, booked in the ERP system and placed in the red order box. In the meantime, the next requisite item is automatically brought to the access point. When all of the items for the order have been picked and put in the box at the first lift cluster, the box is transported by the roller conveyor system to the other lift clusters for completion. Scalable picking performance thanks to parallel prepositioning High picking performance that can be flexibly adjusted to order volume is a decisive advantage during seasonal peaks at HT Connect. This parallel prepositioning with several clustered Hänel Lean-Lift® systems results in fast order processing. To boost picking performance even more, two employees can work at one lift cluster during peak seasons when incoming orders are high. When order picking with the Hänel systems is completed, the items are sent to the packing line and then delivered to customers. Systematic real-time organization of more than 10,000 items is a basic prerequisite for smooth order processes in the online shop. This is possible thanks to the direct data communication between the Hänel controllers and the JTL ERP system. This keeps inventory information updated and guarantees that process operations are precisely logged. HT Connect express deliveries are thus ready for next-day delivery to online customers as promised. This results in high levels of customer satisfaction and contributes to constant business growth at HT Connect. In the near future the company plans to expand current warehouse operations by installing six more Hänel Lean-Lifts®. An additional advantage of Hänel lifts will come into play during this expansion because more storage capacity can be added at any time and adjusted to building conditions to ensure maximum space utilization. When the project is completed, HT Connect expects to have 48 Hänel Lean-Lifts® in operation. The Hänel Lean-Lifts® at HT Connect are the perfect e-commerce intralogistics solution and enable the company to profit from fast and reliable order processing and warehouse organization. To boost picking performance even more, two employees can work at one lift cluster during peak seasons The picking process is sequential from one lift to the next and continues until the items are finally sent to the packing station "To ensure express next-day deliveries, we currently operate 24 Hänel Lean-Lifts® that store more than 10,000 items and have a direct link to our ERP system. This enables our employees to process orders very efficiently, even during seasonal peaks, and that results in outstanding customer satisfaction." Horst Toeffels , Managing Director

Components and small parts for the assembly department are also neatly stored in the lifts and made available to employees through the ERP system. Seamless integration of the customer’s ERP system and HänelSoft®-N Thanks to the latest control technology, Hänel Lean-Lift® solutions can be seamlessly integrated in existing IT infrastructures. Linking the Lean-Lift® systems to the Epicor ERP system used throughout Boers & Co was an absolute must. This ensures direct communication between HänelSoft®-N and Epicor. The Hänel MP 14 N controller, in conjunction with the intuitive user interface of HänelSoft®-N, offers high levels of convenience and ease of use. Job orders are set up in Epicor and then sent to the lift systems. The user can start the job order directly on the touchscreen of the MP 14 N controller. The Hänel Lean-Lift® transports the requisite items to the ergonomically designed access point for retrieval. The routing in this process is optimized to save time. Fast and error-free order picking with Hänel Pick-o-Light®-Vario Two additional access points on the upper floor are used to provide assembly lines with various small parts and components The 12-inch touchscreen of the Hänel MP 14 N controller clearly displays all of the job orders in HänelSoft®-N The Hänel lifts provide employees with various small parts needed for assembly processes Orders are set up directly on the Epicor terminal. All operations and inventory items stored in the Hänel lifts can be monitored throughout the company at all times Finished products and components are picked for shipping on the ground floor To support employees and minimize picking errors, Hänel Pick-o-Light®-Vario highlights the pick item location on the container when it arrives at the access point. The Hänel multifunction container is also shown on the controller display at the same time. The user confirms the completed pick directly on the controller. The Hänel Lean-Lift® then transports the next item to the access point for retrieval. Inventory data is automatically updated in Epicor. When all of the requested items are on the picking cart, the user closes the job order at the lift – the job is also closed in Epicor simultaneously. For many years now Boers & Co has been operating two other Hänel Lean-Lift® systems for tool management in the Precision Machining Department. Flexible and transparent tool organization in the Hänel Lean-Lift® on the production floor A Hänel Lean-Lift® in StandAlone mode serves as the central tool provisioning system for the surrounding production area. Complete warehouse management is already integrated in the Hänel MP 14 N-StandAlone controller as a standard feature. Machine operators use the lift controller to request the tools they need. The proper container is then transported directly to the retrieval access point. Hänel Pick-o-Light®-Vario clearly identifies the location of the requested tool. The tool maintenance department is located behind the lift system, which has an additional access point at the back. After use tools are inspected and then returned to the Lean-Lift® at this access point. The Hänel high-speed door enables parallel use of both access points. Another Hänel Lean-Lift® located in the second production area functions as a tool depot. Once again full usage of the height available – from floor to ceiling – saves valuable space on the production floor. At the same time expensive tools are safely and reliably stored in the lift and can be retrieved ergonomically. This solution even gives shift employees access to the complete inventory of tools. Boers & Co Precision Solutions is known for optimized and well-designed business processes. Hänel intralogistic solutions are a perfect fit for the company’s philosophy. The storage position on the container is clearly identified for the user with a dot of light Production employees have fast and ergonomic access to thousands of tools at any time Hänel multifunction containers allow for the neat and space-saving organization of large quantities of diverse tools Inspected tools can be made available again for production processes thanks to a second access point "The seamless interface between HänelSoft®-N and our ERP systems is crucial for Boers & Co. This interaction supports the flexible and efficient storage of numerous finished products and components for our complex assemblies." Ronald Koot , CEO

The company consolidates the unique expertise of several different departments under one roof. For years now Boers & Co has been operating flexible vertical lifts from Hänel in a number of business units. When planning a new building extension, managers included an additional Hänel intralogistics solution right from the start. Two high-speed versions of the Hänel Lean-Lift® are located in the modern shipping department where they store finished products and components that are ready for delivery. Both lift systems have a second retrieval access point and thus serve as a “bridge” between the assembly area on the upper floor with the shipping department on the ground floor. Hanel Rotomat - Automated Storage for Agriculture Machinery

Relevance:

Agriculture machinery spare parts storage with batch picking Baywa AG - Automated Storage Systems for Agriculture Machinery Automated storage systems are not just a way of saving money – they are also key to the success of corporate planning. To enable the company to respond flexibly to the changing volume of goods and reduce warehousing costs, BayWa AG installed a Rotomat® vertical storage carousel from Hänel in its central spare parts warehouse in Schweinfurt. The automated “goods to user” order picking ensures that spare and wear parts for a variety of sub-assemblies needed in the agricultural, forestry and municipal sectors are brought swiftly to the retrieval point. The Rotomat® can also be integrated into a system cluster to handle future requirements. BayWa AG is far more than just a retail company. It is a global corporation with about 17,000 employees and headquarters in Munich, and has generated steady growth for years. Its core competences include trading, logistics and supplementary services in the market segments of agriculture, construction and energy. The agricultural segment in turn has several sub-divisions. The Technology Division covers all the value creation stages of agricultural machinery apart from manufacturing. The product portfolio ranges from farming and forestry technology, including modern milking and feeding systems, to municipal equipment, the building of stables, barn equipment, and various systems for producing renewable energy such as biogas, through to specialist agricultural equipment with all the spare parts involved. The central spare parts warehouse in Schweinfurt is responsible for managing some 85,000 different items for specialist technology needs in agriculture, forestry and municipal applications along with spare parts for agricultural machinery and municipal vehicles, all of which are kept in more than 100,000 storage slots. Around 30 employees supply more than 230 workshops and over 500 mobile service vehicles as well as end customers directly. Vertical carousel provides fast access to spares for agricultural machinery and municipal vehicles Service has top priority at BayWa. The Head of Logistics at the central spare parts warehouse, Uwe Riegel, explains: “If we get an urgent order for a replacement part to service agricultural machinery or to repair a harvesting or municipal vehicle, we can guarantee delivery the next day. For fast access to our huge range of about 6,000 different small parts, we use the reliable and compact Rotomat® storage system from Hänel.” The multifunction carriers on the shelves of the Rotomat® carousel offer variable interior fittings to hold the different spare parts. Intermediate shelves and movable dividers can be inserted into punched slot grids so that the carriers can be individually adapted. With two removable intermediate shelves on each of the 22 multifunction carriers, it has been possible to create 66 shelf levels in the carousel. On each level there are 24 storage bins which are subdivided into smaller compartments with cross dividers and each assigned a barcode. This means there are about 1,500 storage bins in which parts are safely protected from light and dust; these parts include spares for carburetors, small transmission components, seals and spark plugs from Stihl or Bosch and spares for harvesters and tractors from brands such as Massey Ferguson and Fendt which belong to the US corporation AGCO Parts. With its compact design and by utilizing the full height of the warehouse, the carousel was able to reduce the storage footprint from over 120 square meters to just a few square meters. In this way, costly storage space has been saved and thanks to the fast “goods to user” order picking based on the Ferris wheel principle, picking times have been significantly reduced. Moreover, the entire inventory of small parts is safely stored in the closed carousel. Optimized and reliable batch picking The Hänel storage carousel is impressive because it takes up so little space and also because of the great flexibility and transparency of all the processes. Currently order picking is carried out in batch mode. The orders are printed out on the label printer. Using the barcode scanner connected via USB interface, the order data on a label are scanned into the BayWa network and electronically recorded in the SAP storage management system in Munich. At the touch of a button, the items in a pick list are brought to the retrieval point in the most efficient sequence in one direction of rotation. Uwe Riegel explains: “With the Ethernet interface, the carousel storage system can also be controlled directly from the SAP system. The technical implementation of this seamless integration into our IT system is to take place soon. Then manual control via keypad will no longer be necessary. At the present time we handle on average up to 600 pick orders in batch mode within eight hours each day.” When the barcode on a label is scanned, the scanner display shows not only the order data along with the quantity and item number or name, but also the carousel level, storage box and compartment. If the storage position is scanned, SAP confirms whether the right position has been accessed or not. And following retrieval, the picker confirms the quantity of articles retrieved by entering a figure on the scanner keypad. This quantity is then checked by the storage management system in SAP, thus offering a second level of security. In the next step the collected items are packed in plastic bags, labeled and assigned to the right pick order in the dispatch department. Thanks to the transparent storage procedures and high access speeds of the vertical carousel, individual small components are quickly found and can be delivered at top speed. The transparent storage management in SAP has reduced inventory discrepancies and thereby lowered warehousing costs. Moreover, with the reliable and transparent order picking processes in the storage management system of the SAP host system, inventory discrepancies in the small parts storeroom have also been eliminated and thereby costs reduced. At the touch of a button, the items are picked from successive storage locations in the most efficient sequence in one direction of rotation. Some 85,000 items for specialist technology needs as well as spare and wear parts for the agriculture, forestry and municipal sectors are kept in over 100,000 storage slots in the central spare parts warehouse. TTI Inc. Europe

Relevance:

TTI, Inc. Europe, Ganghoferstraße 34, 82216 Maisach-Gernlinden, Germany 35 Hänel Lean-Lifts® and 24 Hänel Multi-Space® storage systems guarantee maximum efficiency The Hänel solutions at TTI enable high-performance order picking with flexible management and rapid handling of tens of thousands of different SMD components Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, TTI, Inc. is a world-leading authorized distributor of electronic components. The Maisach-Gernlinden site plays a key role in TTI’s global network. To ensure the best possible storage and logistics processes at its European headquarters, the company has relied on Hänel’s advanced storage solutions for a number of years. TTI currently has a total of 59 Hänel vertical lifts in its ultra-modern central warehouse, including 35 Hänel Lean-Lifts® and 24 Hänel Multi-Space® 3-axis storage systems. Thanks to their high efficiency and an impressive storage capacity of more than 145,000 locations, the automatic Hänel lifts fulfill all key requirements of dynamic logistics processes. Vertical storage with maximum space utilization Hänel vertical lifts can be adapted flexibly to the existing space situation. At TTI, the Hänel Lean-Lifts® extend to heights of more than nine meters, while the Hänel Multi-Space® storage systems even reach up to 49,2 ft / 15 meters in height. With their some 9,500 containers, the lifts therefore offer an enormous amount of space by leveraging more than 193750 sq ft / 18,000 m² of vertical storage space within a total footprint of just around 8611 sq ft / 800 m². This extremely efficient use of vertical space is a feature of all Hänel storage solutions and offers ideal integration in existing storage concepts. 20 Hänel Multi-Space® storage systems, at a height of 15 m/49.21 ft, were designed to fit the existing ceiling height and are also fitted with a sprinkler system A terminal is available at each lift group with access to the management system, from where the relevant label is printed for each item on an order Thanks to the innovative design of the access points on the Hänel Multi-Space®, an employee can pick items in parallel on four lifts without the need to walk long distances To ensure the best possible flow of goods, the storage and retrieval processes are carried out in parallel across all access points Sustainability thanks to intelligent energy usage with the Hänel EcoDrive® All Hänel Multi-Space® storage systems at TTI are equipped with Hänel EcoDrive® technology. The integrated frequency converter transforms the kinetic energy of the descending extractor into electrical energy instead of allowing it to dissipate in the form of heat. The resulting energy that is recovered is fed back into the power grid and can therefore be used elsewhere. Depending on the rate of extractor travel, up to 40% of the energy required for the upward run can be recovered. This leads to considerable savings and therefore a reduction in running costs. Fast order processing thanks to optimized workflows The Hänel Multi-Space® allows containers to be delivered quickly from all lift modules due to the simultaneous vertical and horizontal movement of the extractor. The storage volume available centrally at just one issuing point is therefore enormous. The access points on the Multi-Space® 3-axis storage systems at TTI are designed to enable order picking simultaneously at four retrieval points. The stored items from a total of 12 lift modules can be quickly accessed in these four-way lift groups within minimal walking distances. This inherent advantage of the Multi-Space® system enables large-scale order picking with a minimum of staff. The requested SMD components for picking are then transported via a conveyor belt directly to the shipping department, from where they are dispatched together with other items on the customer order. Flexible scalability to meet growing requirements The first four Hänel Lean-Lifts® were installed as far back as 2010. As TTI grew, so too did the need for additional storage capacity, which led to the successive purchase of further Hänel systems over the years. These ongoing investments demonstrate that the Hänel solutions meet TTI’s high expectations in full as regards efficiency and reliability. TTI not only relies on the innovative Multi-Space® storage systems, but also the proven Hänel Lean-Lifts®. Space-saving and reliable storage of sensitive electronic These ultra-modern lift systems offer numerous advantages for ensuring reliable management and handling of SMD components. The Hänel Lean-Lifts® are designed to integrate seamlessly into the existing storage space and thus provide maximum storage capacity within a minimum footprint. The enclosed design of the Hänel storage systems also reliably protects sensitive electronic components against dust, dirt, and unauthorized access. Each item in the multifunction containers is labeled with a barcode and can be uniquely identified with a scanner An employee operates a number of Lean-Lifts® simultaneously. As the order volume increases, the picking rate can be improved dynamically by deploying additional employees When an item is retrieved, the order label is affixed to enable further processing in the shipping department Standardized processes and clearly structured workplaces mean that staff can work productively at all 59 lifts following a short training period All items picked from the Hänel lifts are transported directly to the central shipping department via the adjacent conveyor belt The available space is leveraged optimally thanks to the precise measurement of the height of items and the space-saving storage on the Hänel Profile Wall® The 35 Hänel Lean-Lifts® and 24 Hänel Multi-Space® storage systems offer enormous storage capacity for SMD components thanks to more than 145,000 storage locations – ensuring flexible and systematic handling of individual customer orders The barcode-based process reduces the potential for error when managing tens of thousands of different products Hänel’s innovative vertical technology minimizes storage and retrieval times, while the flexible height adjustment means that different stored articles can be stowed away in a structured and space-saving manner. The picking process on the Hänel solutions at TTI is standardized across the lift systems, which means that staff can be deployed at all 59 lifts following a short training period. Workplace ergonomics as a success factor TTI is committed to the highest safety and ergonomic standards at the workplace. The ergonomic design of the order picking process is optimized thanks to the use of Hänel vertical lifts. Staff can work efficiently without losing time due to long walking distances or searching for items. This allows for faster processing of orders and significantly boosts productivity. There is also less physical stress and strain on employees thanks to the convenient access heights and intuitive handling of the Hänel lifts. Work safety is improved as a result as well as employee satisfaction. Maximum storage density All containers in the Hänel vertical lifts are stored directly on the profiles of the Hänel Profile Wall®. The articles stored in every container that leaves the access point are measured automatically and precisely by the height-measuring light barriers. Containers at TTI are fitted with Hänel’s space-saving pitch technology and can therefore be transported to the profile wall in increments of 37.5 mm with no loss of space. The combination of optimum slot system, precise height measurement, and container slot allocation enables compact storage without any loss of space even when articles are of the most varied heights. Continuous investment in Hänel systems confirms the high level of customer satisfaction and trust in the quality of Hänel storage solutions. To keep pace with growing requirements, TTI is planning further expansion at the Maisach site and has already ordered ten additional Hänel Multi-Space® storage systems. Because the multifunctional containers can be divided flexibly, a vast range of SMD reels can be supplied safely and with structured organization Every storage process is coordinated at a terminal from the central TTI management system. The containers in question are then requested via the Hänel MP 12 N lift controller "Hänel’s logistics solutions offer us maximum flexibility for designing our storage space and allow our employees to operate up to four lifts at the same time. The reliability of the vertical lifts combined with the excellent customer support and rapid response times have made Hänel a valued partner for TTI for many years."
