The Hänel Multi-Space® as a central dispatch warehouse – efficient material flow over two floors
The Hänel solution enables an effective dispatch process while is gearing up for the future with an upcoming SAP integration
Ensinger GmbH is recognized internationally for quality and sustainable technologies. As a leading provider of engineering plastics, the company develops innovative and individual solutions for a wide variety of industries, including medical technology and biopharma. At its production facilities in Cham, Ensinger uses the Hänel Multi-Space® as a central dispatch warehouse for finished parts, which are stored following the final inspection and picked for further packing or direct shipping to customers.
This intralogistics solution was custom-designed by Hänel’s storage experts in response to the customer’s requirement to further optimize its internal processes and meet growing requirements into the future.
Space-saving storage for demanding requirements
The Hänel 3-axis storage system at Ensinger enables optimal use of the available space and offers enormous storage capacity in 116 Hänel multifunction containers. The three storage towers together offer an impressive maximum payload capacity of 120 tons on a footprint of just 25 square meters.
Consistent material flow over two floors
At a lift height of more than 6.5 meters / 21,33 ft, the Hänel Multi-Space® makes ideal use of the available space, connecting two floors to create an optimal logistics process. On the second floor, articles from nearby production undergo a final inspection and are readied for dispatch, while packing and shipping take place on the first floor.
Employees can store and pick articles simultaneously at the two Hänel Multi-Space® retrieval points. At the moment, orders are processed at the Hänel MP 14 N controller using a manual scanner to record and confirm all positions and storage locations. The plastic parts are securely organized in various loading aids, which are optimally designed for different sizes and shapes.
Future SAP integration and process optimizations
The flexible Hänel controllers enable seamless integration in a wide variety of ERP systems. In the future, the team plans to connect the Hänel Multi-Space® to Ensinger’s SAP system, enabling orders to be automatically processed. This means that the Hänel Lift will be directly controlled from the SAP system and the containers required for a picking order will be automatically provided.
In parallel, further support is provided for employees by the Hänel Pick-o-Light® Vario, which is already integrated at the retrieval points and allows articles to be identified uniquely during order picking. These steps will ensure a further increase in the efficiency and speed of operations in Ensinger’s storage warehouse.
From the moment it went into operation, the Hänel Multi-Space® has become an integral part of the intralogistics process at Ensinger, thanks to the combination of vertical storage, intelligent control, and ergonomic operation.
This project shows how forward-looking technology can be combined with well-thought-out planning to achieve maximum efficiency. The Hänel Multi-Space® is not just a solution to current challenges, its integration in SAP also offers the basis for longterm growth.

"The Hänel Multi-Space® has allowed us to significantly reduce the floor space needed for storage while optimizing our internal processes. Automatic transport between the different levels lightens the load on our team and the planned SAP integration will make order picking processes even more efficient in the future."
