Railway vehicle parts storage
integration of three Hänel lift systems for storing spare parts
Alstom is the world leader when it comes to railway technology – this is reflected in the company’s wide-ranging portfolio of systems, equipment and services for the rail transportation market. The main focus is on the manufacture of railway vehicles for local and regional railroad companies.
Alstom is the only business enterprise offering mainte-nance, repair and modernization of all types of rolling stock and related components originating from any manufacturer. In Great Britain and Ireland, some 2,500 people are employed at 20 Alstom sites – this work-force supports about one-third of all rail travel in these countries.
Alstom invested in three Hänel Lean-Lifts® for its Wembley site in order to consolidate several warehouse areas and improve security, safety and traceability at the same time.
The height-optimized storage, plus the choice of systems equipped with a space-saving height profile in 37.5-mm-steps, ensures that all components are safeguarded and securely stored.
The intelligent software interface linking the Alstom ERP system with the Hänel Lean-Lifts® makes for fast and efficient order picking at the company’s bustling rail service point. Items can now be picked according to specified train numbers. Tracing is possible using batch numbers and serial numbers. The systems are equipped with the MP 12 N controller, along with a USB interface and card reader to prevent unauthorized system access. A log system featuring intelligent integrated key cards keeps track of all user transactions performed at the lift systems.
The additional Expanded Safety Bypass (ESB) package integrated in the storage systems ensures that the lifts can – in specified cases – still be operated until a service engineer arrives to take care of any problems.
