Siemens Turbomachinery GmbH
The Hänel Lean-Lift® as a central tool storage system
Siemens Turbomachinery GmbH produces steam turbines and blower systems for industrial and waste water applications at its site in Frankenthal, in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
Seven Hänel Lean-Lifts® are operated as a central tool depot for the company's production lines. The vertical lift systems provide systematic and height-optimized storage of complete tool sets. The Hänel systems support fast provisioning of a large number of tools. Complete tool sets and individual tool components are effectively safeguarded against damage and dirt.
The flexible Hänel multifunction containers can be configured to accommodate diverse tools having various sizes and shapes. Large and small tools are neatly organized in a cluster of lift systems for maximum space utilization.
Ergonomic transport of heavy loads with the Hänel transport cart
It goes without saying that Hänel has solutions for the storage, ergonomic retrieval and transport of extremely heavy loads. When completely pulled out of the lift system, the entire multifunction container rests on a transport cart which can be delivered to the machinists on the production floor. This reduces the time needed for retooling, not to mention intralogistics routing.
Optimized space utilization
Siemens Turbomachinery operates another cluster comprised of nine Hänel Lean-Lift® systems as a central storage solution for parts and components needed for assembly processes. These vertical lift systems are organized in groups of three. Parts that are frequently needed are kept in the first six Hänel Lean-Lifts®, which have 100,000 storage positions. The remaining three lift systems in the cluster also use the vertical capacity of five meters available at basement level – these Hänel systems thus have a height of 14.5 meters.
Prepositioning boosts picking performance and speed
SAP is deployed as the ERP system and is linked to the Hänel MP12 N HostWeb controller via LACOM-TS. When the pick list generated in SAP is scanned, the lift systems automatically go into action. One employee picking items from three Lean-Lift® systems in parallel, and supported by the prepositioning feature, speeds up the process of delivering components to the production area.
The storage locations on the multifunction containers are displayed graphically on the compact MP 12 N-HostWeb controller. When the employee confirms retrieval at the control unit, the pick is confirmed and booked in the ERP system automatically.
Siemens Turbomachinery has increased process performance to 80 picks per person / per hour thanks to the efficiency of the nine Hänel Lean-Lifts®. The deployment of Hänel vertical lift solutions for the storage and management of tools and parts boosts the reliability, flexibility and cost-effectiveness of intralogistics processes.
